METHOD FOR PRODUCING SHAPED ACTIVATED CARBON FROM SAWDUST Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: reclamation of wastes resulting from wood-working industry. SUBSTANCE: proposed method comprises following steps: sawdust is passed through sieve, dried, impregnated with ammonium nitrate solution at impregnation factor of at least 0.18, followed by shaping blanks having axial ends. Blanks j thus-shaped are placed as blocks between plates adapted to confine blanks from opposite axial ends. Blanks are placed into inert atmosphere and subjected to simultaneous carbonization and activation by burning block from side of one of plates. Blocks thus-activated are cooled down to room temperature, followed by washing to remove impurities. EFFECT: valuable product is obtained from wastes.
