FIELD: peptide chemistry, more particularly process for preparing methyl ester of N-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-aspartyl-L-phenyl alanine which is aspartam dipeptide precursor; aspartam is intensive sweetening agent; it is used in medicine, food, pharmaceutic and perfume industries. SUBSTANCE: in the art is process for preparing methyl ester of N- benzyloxycarbonyl-L-aspartyl-L-phenyl alanine by condensation of N-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-asparagic acid and methyl ester of in or D,L-phenyl alanine used both individually and in composition of reaction mixtures in the presence of metalloproteinase followed by isolation of the desired product by addition of acid solution. The claimed invention is novel in addition of acid solution directly to reaction mixture formed on completion of condensation reaction. EFFECT: more efficient preparation process.
