FIELD: industrial organic syntheses. SUBSTANCE: hydrogen chloride/bromide in the form of mixture of preliminarily prepared saturated alcohol solution of hydrogen halide with its saturated aqueous solution continuously interacts with corresponding alcohol at hydrogen halide to alcohol molar ratio at least 3.5:1 in 2-4 in-series disposed reactors, in which reaction mass is gradually heated to boiling temperature - process temperature is advantageously maintained at the level by 5 to 20 C below boiling temperature of mixture except for the last reactor wherein process proceeds under boiling of reaction mass. Reaction mass is fed into synthesis with such a rate as to provide alcohol conversion no higher than 95%. As catalysts, organic base halogen- hydrates or quaternary ammonium salts are advantageously used. EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency. 6 cl, 1 dwg
