FIELD: sorbents production. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing solid inorganic sorbents with special emphasis on magnetically operated sorbents in the process of treating waste water and liquid radioactive wastes. High sorption capacity of sorbent in conjunction with possibility of its being magnetically operated is achieved due to that in a method of preparing sorbent including disintegration and heat treatment of iron-manganese concretions, the heat treatment of the latter having been disintegrated to particle size 0.1-2.0 mm is carried out under inert gas atmosphere at 750-850 C for at least 0.5 h and resultant product is separated into magnetic and nonmagnetic fractions, whereas, as sorbent, magnetic fraction of treated iron-manganese concretions is used.
