FIELD: special electrometallurgy; applicable for production of ingots and slabs of commercial purity titanium in electron- beam installations with an intermediate kettle, with employment of titanium sponge as a source charge. SUBSTANCE: production of a consumable titanium container, filling of it with titanium sponge, feeding of the filled consumable container to the zone of action of electron beams, heating and fusion of its ends above the intermediate kettle, refining of metal in the intermediate kettle at a constant heating power, discharge of liquid metal into a mould and moulding of an ingot in it. The consumable container is fed at a linear translational velocity equal to or lower than the linear velocity of melting point front propagation providing for degassing and evaporation of magnesium or sodium chlorides at maintaining of the value of reduced melting energy on metal refining in the intermediate kettle and moulding of the ingot in the mould with 3 to 10 kWh/kg. sq. m and 0.5 to 2.5 kWh/kg.sq.m. respectively. The installation uses electron guns with deflecting systems as heating sources, consumable container, intermediate kettle and a mould. Gas-discharge heating sources, the level of working pressure in them exceeds the pressure in the melting chamber, in particular, high-voltage glow-discharge electron guns; the relation between the distances between the gun deflecting systems and intermediate kettle and the kettle area is at least 3m-1.
