FIELD: powder metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves applying current-conductive layer to organic sponge substrate; performing electrolytic deposition of copper or nickel with following burning out of organic substrate in liquid heat-carrier, with salt and/or alkali being used as heat-carrier. Burning-out process may be followed with caking process. Parameters of thermal treatment process with the usage of liquid heat-carrier are easily controlled and the process may be mechanized and automated. Method allows sponge metal for fabrication of general-purpose filters, moisture separating filters, catalyzers, power source elements and constructional parts to be produced. EFFECT: increased efficiency, simplified method and improved quality of metal. 4 cl, 1 tbl
