FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the improved method of synthesis of a-arylpropionic acids by asymmetric catalytic hydrogenation of a-arylacrylic acid derivatives in the presence of ruthenium-phosphine catalyst at temperature below 30 C under the corresponding hydrogen pressure. Preferably, process is carried out in the presence of the base and using the complex of the formula a as catalyst where: BJNAP means tertiary phosphine of the formula: Ru(bYNAP)XYn where: - hydrogen, alkyl, aralkyl, alkaryl; X and Y - are nonchelate or noncoordinating anions of the formula R1; n = 1-10. Synthesized compounds were used in pharmaceutical industry for drugs synthesis. EFFECT: improved method of synthesis. 9 cl, 7 tbl
