FIELD: coatings. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to applying coating from gas phase onto flat glass generated on smelted metal surface. For this purpose, coating reagent is passed over the surface of hot glass while exhausted gas is withdrawn through exhaust duct. Over glass surface adjacent to exhaust duct, inert gas is passed. Apparatus comprises front and back walls installed in spaced relation to each other, and central unit, the three parts forming supply and exhaust ducts. The former is connected with reagent supply pipeline and the latter with extractor. Face of back wall of the exhaust duct exposed to glass tape is made globe-like and its horizontal surface is located at a distance at least 5 mm to glass tape.
