FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: invention is related to measurement of effective scattering area of joints of various materials having small level of reflection. Device incorporates transmitting unit 1, receiving unit 2, recorder 3, rotary unit 4 carrying linear grate 5 of joints of materials arranged with preset spacing d and joints of materials arranged with same preset spacing d and displayed with reference to joints 5 by preset distance and pickup of angle of turn. Possibility of measurement of effective scattering area of joints of various materials is provided by execution of two measurements of effective scattering area of grate with specified displacement d1 and grate with specified displacement d2. Sought-for value of effective scattering area is determined with allowance for aspect of reception of radio waves and direction of asymmetry of pattern of backward reflection of examined joint with respect to normal to plane of joint.
