FIELD: mining; applicable in underground thermal processing of fuel seams. SUBSTANCE: method includes drilling-in of coal seams by holes, lighting-up of underground gas generator and its drying, gasification of coal seam by supply of compressed air through one holes and withdrawal of formed gas through gas discharge holes. Novelty consists in that during gasification the relation between pressure in underground gas generator and pressure of underground water column is maintained within 0.75-1.0 by regulation of degree of opening of gate on gas discharge holes and level of water in well-points. In this case, level of underground water column is periodically measured on the section of underground gasification, and pressure in underground gas generator is monitored.
