FIELD: manufacturing of shaped hydrogel articles, among them, soft contact lenses. SUBSTANCE: shaped hydrogel articles are manufactured by molding or by casting of polymerization mixture which comprises copolymer and diluent followed by substitution of diluent with water. Polymerization mixture comprises: (a) mixture of monomers comprising hydrophile ester of (met)acrylic acid (e.g. 2-oxyethyl methacrylate, alkyl(meth)acrylate) which alkyl group comprises at least 4 carbon atoms and cross-linking monomer; and (b) diluent replaceable with water, said diluent has viscosity being at least 100 mPa s at 30 C and it mainly comprises ester of boric acid and definite dihydric alcohols.
