FUEL TANK Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: aeronautical engineering. SUBSTANCE: fuel tank includes fuel reservoir, fuel supply system, fuel gauge, fuel discharge system, system for protection of tank against flowing of fuel out of tank in case of loss of tightness, emergency drainage system and fire protection system. In floor compartment soft thin-walled tank is introduced; protection system against overflow of fuel in case of damage to tank consists in laying foam rubber in space between double skin of compartment. Soft tank has changeable form and overall dimensions which is achieved due to introduction of corrugation. Fuel supply system is combined with fuel discharge system feeding fuel to fuel equipment. At absence of fuel, filler is placed inside soft tank whose outer contour corresponds to inner contour of soft tank. Filler is made from soft easily compressible fuel-resistant material. It has steps for receiving and placing the corrugated sections of soft tank having changeable form and overall dimensions. Filler is provided with detachable member - plug and recess in lower portion. Emergency fuel discharge system is provided with hole in lower portion of floor compartment for tank to receive of soft tank where plug is inserted inside. Emergency fuel discharge system is provided with device for cutting the projecting portion of soft tank and plug by means of knife fitted in outer portion of tank and set in motion by means of cylinder. This device is closed with casing which has hole with guide bead for escape of cut sections of soft tank and plug. Hole in casing is stepped with fabric which is bonded to it to avoid penetration of snow and water. Plug is made from fuel-resistant plastic easily-cut material.
