FIELD: freeze drying of gases in manufacture of film materials. SUBSTANCE: method consists in successive passage of gas through supply chamber 8 of rotor 4, first stage of ring heat-exchange packing 14 in parallel with cooling agent flow, intermediate chamber 19, second stage of ring heat-exchange packing 14 in counter flow relative to cooling agent and discharge chamber 10 of rotor 4. Drying gas is fed to cooling surface vertically downward. Rate of flow of gas over frontal section through first cooling stage ranges from 5 to 10 m/s. Device for realization of this method includes housing 1 with branch pipes 2 and 3 for supply of moist gas and discharge of cooled dried gas, rotor divided by partitions 7 into chambers 8 and 10 for supply and discharge of gas flows, multipass circular heat exchanger 14 provided with radial partitions 7 and cooling agent supply and discharge branch pipes, intermediate chamber 19 provided with branch pipes 20 for discharge of excessive gas. Rotor 4 is located above heat exchanger 14 and intermediate chamber 19 is located below it. Gas flow guide apparatus 13 is arranged between rotor 4 and circular heat exchanger 14. Area of holes 9 of supply chamber 8 of rotor 4 is equal to 25-50% of frontal surface of circular heat exchanger and area of holes 11 of discharger chamber 10 is equal to 50-75% of this surface.
