FIELD: heat engineering; power, chemical, petrochemical, food-processing and other industries. SUBSTANCE: shell-and-tube heat exchanger includes transverse partitions 2 located in inter-tube space which cover passage section of its casing; these partitions are provided with round holes for passage of heat-transfer agent which are engageable with diffusers 3 on side of flow; diffusers 3 are narrowing opposite this flow. Angle of opening of each diffuser ranges from 50 to 160 deg and area of minimum passage section of inter-tube space (total area of inlet sections of diffusers) is no more than 2/3 of area of total passage section of inter-tube space. Holes available in partitions 2 for passage of heat-transfer agent may be made between tubes 1 and centers of these holes are equidistant relative to centers of holes for tubes 1 or they are registered with holes for tubes 1 where tubes 1 are mounted at spaced relation. Heat exchange may be considerably intensified with no rise in pressure differential through adjusting the pitch between partitions 2, flow rate of working medium and relationship and opening angle of diffuser within indicated ranges by 2-3 and more times.
