FIELD: railway transport. SUBSTANCE: level of electromagnetic radiation of surface of railway track section under control is determined by videotechnical reading performed by moving electromagnetic radiation sensor along the track section with simultaneous crosswise displacement of sensor and recording two- dimensional thermal trace after passage of train. Then thermal trace formed at passage of other train is recorded and results of measurement are compared. Basing on measured level of electromagnetic radiation, degree of wear and defects in track structure are revealed by following configuration of thermal field. In other version, level of electromagnetic radiation of thermal field. In other version, level of electromagnetic radiation is determined by recording two-dimensional thermal trace after passage of train, measured level of electromagnetic radiation is compared with standard value corresponding to preset characteristic of track structure and degree of wear and defects of track structure are revealed basing on results of comparison.
