FIELD: environmental control; treatment of effluents originated by chemical, petrochemical, coke-chemical, mechanical engineering and other industries, wherever discharges of aromatic hydrocarbons and their derivatives are possible. SUBSTANCE: effluents are subjected to treatment with sorbents, followed by washing them with methyl tert-butyl ether to remove adsorbed hydrocarbon. Ether is preliminarily saturated with water to saturation limit. Ether, in turn, is washed out from sorbent with water or blown out by air blast. EFFECT: 1) improved stability of the main property of regenerated sorbent, viz! its capacity to adsorb hydrocarbons; 2) reduced energy consumption for separating eluent from both hydrocarbons and water; 3) total toxicity of discharged effluents can be considerably (by factor 200-1000) reduced. 1 tbl
