FIELD: radio engineering, applicable for measurement of aerial characteristics. SUBSTANCE: the method is realized by a device having an array of radiating probes installed before the aperture of the aerial under examination, p-discharge phase shifters, distribution system, generator, meter, phase shifters control unit and a computer. Compensation of systematic errors of each phase shifter is accomplished by taking them into account at compensation of the initial value of the excitation phase of the respective radiating probe of the array, and compensation of random errors is accomplished by changing over simultaneously all phase shifters of the array of the radiating probes parameters of the signals received by the aerial so that each phase shifter would occupy all its discrete states during existence of the control command at the input of the phase shifters control unit, corresponding to the preset position of the plane wave phase front. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of measurements of aerial directional pattern characteristics by compensation of the process spread of the phase shift value introduced by the phase shifters of the array of radiating probes. 1 dwg, 1 tbl
