FIELD: woodworking industry, in particular, wood modification. SUBSTANCE: wood is saturated with acetylizing reagent, placed between squeezing surfaces heated to the boiling point of reaction products, but not higher than to 200 C, and squeezed, thus combining the stages of acetylization, removal of reaction products and pressing. In the first variant wood is initially heated between the heated squeezing surfaces for 0.5 to 2 min/mm of the initial thickness. In the second variant wood is initially heated and squeezed by the heated squeezing surfaces at a rate of 0.5 to 5 mm/min to the preset thickness. To enhance the wood plasticity, the acetylizing reagent includes up to 50% by mass of formic acid. EFFECT: simplified operation of woodworking and reduced duration of modification process. 4 cl
