FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves esterification of monochloroacetic acid with methanol at increased temperature, preferably, at 135-145 C. Reaction products were taken at vapor state, preferably, at rectification regime, condensed and separated for aqueous and ether layers by settling. Part of an aqueous layer is fed to rectification as phlegm at phlegm number = 3-5. Esterification is carried out in the presence of dichloroacetic acid. Product of ether layer is washed with the soda aqueous saturated solution at 25-35 C. Yield is 92-98%.
