FIELD: manufacture of building materials. SUBSTANCE: invention can find use in manufacturing bricks, ceramic stones, tile, large-size blocks. Ceramic mass is prepared by mixing clay, sand substitute, calcium hydroxide, e.g. in the form of slaked lime, and tempering by aqueous solution of hardening activator. Products are shaped, e.g. by plastic technique, and thermally treated. Heat treatment includes stages of preliminary drying, heat-wetting treatment in closed atmosphere of saturated gas, and subsequent drying to gradually reduce moisture. According to invention, preliminary drying is conducted to moisture content 12-14 C at 60-70 C, heat- wetting treatment is conducted at 95-100 C for 2-4 h, and subsequent drying for 8-10 h, in the course of which temperature is gradually raised to 120-130 C and such temperature is kept for some time. Contents of solid components in crude ceramic mass are as follows (in wt %): sand, 0.1-50.0; calcium hydroxide, 4.5-20.0; hardening activator, 0.3-4.0; clay, the balance.
