FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: number of additional absorbers to be removed is determined. Then burned-out fuel elements are replaced by those in which erbium has been introduced. Refueling is made until erbium concentration in reactor core reaches value at which erbium effect on core reactivity, including its burn-out till removal of additional absorbers corresponds to at least 80% of effect produced on reactivity of additional absorbers to be removed. Then additional absorbers are taken out of reactor. Burned-out fuel assemblies are replaced by erbium-containing ones and erbium concentration in core is maintained at such level as to ensure that erbium effect on core reactivity is at least 80% of same effect of additional absorbers removed. EFFECT: facilitated procedure. 6 cl
