FIELD: refractory materials. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to refractory mullite materials containing aluminum and silicon oxides in stoichiometric proportion and also to high-silica sillimanite and mullite materials composed according to the following formula: xAl2O3•ySiO2(45<x<62; 62<y72) and used in refractory industry for manufacturing linings and protective, erosion-resistant materials. Known methods for manufacturing refractory materials based on chemical or thermochemical interaction of components do not provide required indexes regarding physical- mechanical and thermophysical characteristics of special-destination products. Invention provides modifying non-exothermic mixtures containing aluminum and silicon oxides via introducing powdered superfine reducing agent - aluminum. Mullite synthesis rate (when producing products with high fire-immunity, minimum porosity, minimum loss of mass when affected by high-velocity streams of media), reaction initiation and propagation temperatures are determined by varying composition, adjusting components' ratio, and their introduction order.
