FIELD: catalytic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: invention proposes a catalyst for oxidative dehydrogenation of methanol to formaldehyde. Catalyst has silver and alumosilicate carrier. Catalyst consists of amorphous nonporous alumosilicate at molar ratio of silicon oxide to aluminium oxide = 1-10 and silver bound with the indicated alumosilicate as ions. Silver amount is 0.01-1 mole/mole aluminium in alumosilicate. Invention proposes also a method of producing this catalyst that involves addition of silver ions at amount 0.01-1 mole/mole aluminium in alumosilicate to amorphous alumosilicate at molar ratio of silicon oxide to aluminium oxide = 1-10 by ion exchange followed by activation of the obtained product by heating at 800-1500 C.
