FIELD: transport engineering; road vehicle operation and condition testing facilities. SUBSTANCE: minimum tolerable time required for gaining threshold value in determined apriori for each operating parameter of unit and sufficient for adequate reaction and response by driver to prevent rise of threshold value and/or realize protection of unit. Each operating parameter of unit in measured in preset time steps, comparing current value with preceding value and revealing tendency of parameter changes, and when the value becomes close to threshold value, designed time during which threshold value will be reached is determined basing on speed of parameter variation. If designed time is reduced to minimum tolerable value, slave mechanisms are brought into operation to set the unit under nominal conditions. Peculiarity of proposed method consists in the following: minimum tolerable time is composed of time of response of driver to recommendations for actuating the slave mechanisms, time taken for actuating of slave mechanisms, time of response of driver to warning of unit protection actuation, time of respond of protective mechanism to cut-in order and time taken by protection process. So, step-by-step changing of units into nominal conditions is performed with due account of time taken for separate operations. EFFECT: improved efficiency of control. 4 cl, 1 dwg
