FIELD: steel wire patenting. SUBSTANCE: method includes heating of wire to temperature over Ac3, holding at this temperature, intensive cooling to temperature over Mn which is effected by blowing with gas at the rate of 30-1000 C/s for time τ determined from relation τ=(0.8-4.5)d x Vg x 10Vr, where d is wire diameter, mm; Vg is gas flow velocity, m/s. In this case, after intensive cooling down to 500-620 C holding is effected at this temperature and cooled finally. The device for embodiment of the method has heater, pressure chamber with nozzle, source of cooling medium and winding mechanism. Nozzle is made in the form of longitudinal slot located along axis of technological process. The device may be provided with cooling chamber, chamber of heat holding and chamber of reconditioning holding. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 21 cl, 14 dwg, 7 tbl
