SAFETY SPINDLE OF ROLLING STAND DRIVE UNIT Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: rolled stock production, protection of main lines of rolling stands from overloads (mainly, of flywheel rolling mills). SUBSTANCE: nondestructive safety spindle of drive mechanism of rolling stand is in the form of connectable shaft formed by wobbler heads. Cylindrical protrusion of one wobbler head is arranged in cylindrical cavity of other head with gap provided with elastomeric sleeve contacting with flange freely fit onto cylindrical protrusion and joined with hollow wobbler head. Flange is mounted with possibility of engaging with elastomeric sleeve through sealing ring. Said flange creates stressed state of omnidirectional compression of sleeve. Said sleeve placed in closed volume uniformly transmits axial pressure in all directions. Friction forces occurring on cylindrical contacting surfaces between sleeve and wobbler heads allow to transmit torque by means of spindle. When main line is overloaded, torque transmitted by safety spindle is more than friction force and one wobbler head rotates relative to said sleeve and other wobbler head. Pins or bolts may be used as means for fixing flange and hollow wobbler head. Under nuts of said bolts there are springs. Pressing down of said springs allows to control tightening effort and therefore transmitted torque. After operating safety spindle automatically restores its working capacity. EFFECT: complete elimination of mill idling periods caused by restoration of broken safety members, emergency free operation of rolling mill, enhanced quality of rolled stock. 3 cl, 1 dwg
