SAFETY SPINDLE OF DRIVE MECHANISM OF ROLLING STAND Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: rolled stock production, possibly protection of main lines of rolling mills ( mainly, flywheel type mills) against overloads. SUBSTANCE: safety spindle of drive mechanism of rolling mill with destructible member is mounted in main line of drive system of rolling stand between pinion stand and motor (or flywheel). Safety spindle includes left and right wobbler heads and destructible member in the form of tube having smoothly changed diameter. The most weakened cross section of said tube is in the middle of destructible member. One wobbler head has cylindrical opening to which cylindrical protrusion of other head is inserted. It prevents disengagement of parts of safety spindle after operation. Spring mounted in the above mentioned opening and resting upon cylindrical protrusion of other head is designed for drawing apart two parts of spindle after operation in order to prevent impingement of edges of destructible member and occurring of axial efforts in main line of drive system of rolling stand. Destructible member is connected with left and right wobbler heads by welded seams whose strength values are more than that of said weakened cross section to be destroyed. Said cross section features smoothly decreased outer or inner diameter or both diameters simultaneously. Such spindle provides new type of destructive deformation: torsion with destruction by straight fracture. EFFECT: simplified design, small size, enhanced maintenance condition of safety spindle and therefore lowered idle time periods at failures and labor consumption at repairing operations. 5 cl, 7 dwg
