FIELD: petroleum processing and petrochemistry. SUBSTANCE: initial crude naphtha is brought in contact with first solid sulfur sorbent consisting of a metal on carrier to provide first effluent product stream. This stream is then brought in contact with VIII group metal-containing sulfur conversion catalyst in reactor in presence of hydrogen. Resultant stream is, in turn, brought in contact with second solid sulfur sorbent including Ia or IIa group metal which leads to reducing sulfur content to less than 10 parts per billion. Such raw material steam can with no risk be subjected to reforming process involving sulfur- sensitive zeolite catalysts. EFFECT: increased lifetime of reforming catalysts. 5 cl, 2 tbl
