FIELD: wood chemistry, perfumery, manufacture of domestic chemicals. SUBSTANCE: treatment of fir bark extract involves filtering aid extract, treating it with aqueous alkali solution, separating neutral portion of extract, distilling solvent therefrom and oxidizing it in the presence of trivalent transition metal (iron, cobalt or chromium) at 100-120 C, subsequently distilling the product in vacuum and taking fraction. Refraction index of said fraction is within 1. 5270-1.5285. EFFECT: more efficient treatment method.
