FIELD: mechanical engineering; surface, sea and river transport; starting stationary and transport internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: method of starting the engine includes supply of gas to prechambers and cylinders, spark ignition of this fuel in prechambers and ignition of lean mixture by flame from prechamber at idling. Before acceleration of engine to warming-up speed, amount of gas fed to prechambers does not exceed 25 percent of total amount of gas. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency.
