FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines; exhaust systems. SUBSTANCE: exhaust gases of internal combustion engine are directed into inlet branch pipe 7 accommodating ionizing electrodes 6. High voltage is supplied to electrodes 6, and spark jumps between electrodes at definite time interval. Electric field is set up between electrodes 6 in which preliminary charging of suspended hard particles in exhaust gases takes place. Then exhaust gases are fed to operating zone of electric centrifugal filter 2. Corona-forming electrode 4 is connected to negative pole of supply unit 10. Hard particles in zone of corona discharge get negative charge, owing to adsorption of negative ions on their surface and, under action of electric and centrifugal forces, are moved to inner surface of chamber 3. In immediate vicinity of chamber surface they are transported by gas flow into hopper 9 and settle down under action of forces appearing as a result of turning of gas flow directed to outlet branch pipe. Electric centrifugal filter 2 is installed in muffler housing. EFFECT: enhanced cleaning of exhaust gases. 2 dwg
