FIELD: machine building, instrument making and optical industry at abrasive machining of closed spherical surfaces. SUBSTANCE: a sphere with an inside lap is placed between the outside lap and gripping device. The axis of rotation of the gripping device is set at an angle to the vertical axis of rotation of the sphere. The sphere is turned about the inclined and vertical axes through random angles θi= 2kπ + θci, where K - number of sphere revolutions, θci - sequence of quasirandom numbers uniformly distributed in interval α1, α2, with 0 < α1< α2< 360°, and at rotation of the sphere about the vertical axis K=0. Finishing is performed in discrete time intervals with a fixed number of finishing cycles in each interval. An even number of time intervals is selected. After every odd interval the sphere is installed in such a manner that the vectors of the first harmonic derived in each even interval would be antiparallel to the vectors of the first harmonic in each preceding odd interval.
