FIELD: water treatment. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to underground waters polluted by industrial enterprises (tailing dumps, etc.) and underground leaching water. Preliminarily, composition of host rocks, velocity of underground water stream, pH value, and concentration of sulfate ions in samples taken out of pollution site or adjacent regions with no oxygen access are determined and mass of sulfate- reduction bacteria is increased by giving them organic nutrients. Then, culture liquid with sulfate-reduction bacteria is pumped in through wells. Choice of location of culture liquid injecting wells, calculation of biomass intake, and periodicity of pumping it in are performed in dependence on earlier determined parameters. As organic nutrients, higher carbohydrate polymers or clayey substances are utilized. EFFECT: enhanced water treatment efficiency. 3 cl, 1 tbl
