FIELD: water treatment. SUBSTANCE: invention, in particular, relates to cleaning water contaminated with man-made pollutant and also water after underground leaching. First of all, one determines building up minerals in pollution zone, after which samples polluted water from one or more wells within polluted zone, and determines concentrations of pollutants in samples. Thereafter, one adds nutrient medium with organic and mineral constituents to samples to isolate sulfate-reducing bacteria and grow their biomass. At least one sample is selected from each group of samples: those containing man-made pollutants and those representing background subsurface water with building up minerals. Selected samples are combined and, after some time, mixture is analyzed for concentrations of pollutants. After that, one introduces preliminarily grown biomass into one or more wells. Amount of biomass and number of wells are found from comparison of pollutants in mixture of samples and polluted subsurface water. Additionally, in at least one of wells negative redox potential is created by adding a ferry compound. Mineral constituent of nutrient medium is composed of aqueous solution of clay with ratio of solids to liquid phase from 0.001 to 0.003 and/or aqueous solution of naturally occurring carbohydrate polymers with above- mentioned ratio from 0.001 to 0.005. Organic constituent is composed of higher carbohydrate polymers, namely vegetable remnants, wood sawdust, cane, sedge, and domestic waste.
