FIELD: mechanical engineering; transport; mobile and stationary power plants employing internal combustion engines, including gas turbine-plants. SUBSTANCE: muffler has housing accommodating reactor with screens. Screens are made of porous metal, thickness 2-20 mm with through pores, diameter 0.5-5.0 mm and specific surface of 0.5-1.5 m2/g. Diameter of pores in each following screen is smaller than that in preceding screen. Number of screens in reactor is 1-12, distance between screens is 5-50 mm set to suppress noise of frequency within 10 Hz and 20 Hz. Reactor can be enclosed in hood made of porous metal, thickness 2-4 mm. Use of porous metal as material for making noise absorbing improves service characteristics of muffler and makes engine ecologically oriented. EFFECT: reduced noise, improved ecological characteristics of engine. 2 cl, 3 dwg
