FOREST SEEDLING PLANTING MACHINE Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: forestry, in particular, equipment for planting forest culture seedlings on uprooted areas or lands free from stumps. SUBSTANCE: machine has frame 1, operator's seat 14 and bracket 16 with pivotally attached radial planting unit 22 with drive. Carrier-packer wheels 7, carrier-leveling board 3 and belt conveyor 12 are fixed on lower side of frame 1. Ripping members 4 adapted for covering seedling with ripped soil are staggered on carrier-leveling board at an angle to longitudinal axis. Belt conveyor 12 is disposed in parallel with soil surface, with space between conveyor belt and soil surface being equal to average length of seedling roots to provide for complete covering of roots. Seedling is retained in strictly vertical position during feeding of seedling to conveyor due to arrangement of rotary shaft of planting unit 22 in pivot joint of bracket 16. Shaft may be rotated about radial axis through 180 deg. Rotary shaft of planting unit 22 is arranged in vertical-transverse plane extending through front cut of raking device 6 for providing damage-free covering of seedling roots. Upon passage of machine, seedling roots are closed both from below and sides by ripped humus layer of soil, with seedling being located in strict vertical position to facilitate quick adaptivity.
