FIELD: water treatment. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to treating water for household and drinking destination, in particular, to removing metal ions from surface and underground waters. The process is effected either via sorption on brucite or by filtering water through bed of sorbent - brucite with grain size 1.5-0.6 mm with passage velocity 2-3 m/h, or by adding brucite into water to be treated followed by separation of precipitate. In the latter case, preferable grain size of brucite is 0.01-0.1 mm and its intake should be 2-3 kg per 1 cu.m of water. EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency. 4 cl, 3 tbl
