FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, in particular, devices for high-temperature heating of air and other gaseous heat carriers. SUBSTANCE: checkerwork has refractory bricks whose upper and lower faces are semicylindrical in shape and with transverse recesses with distance between them in middle part of brick equal the hydraulic diameter of checkerwork, and distance form end faces to recesses equals one half of checkerwork hydraulic diameter. Recess depth in brick upper part is selected form the conditions of prevention of brick sliding over cylindrical surface of members located below and their width is equal to brick thickness. Depth of recess in brick lower part equals 0.3-0.45 of brick height. Recesses in meridian cross-section are isosceles trapezium in shape with large base from below. Brick end side faces may be inclined relative to plane of brick lower base at angle whose tangent equals 0.02-0.06. Length of brick top equals twofold sum of brick thickness and hydraulic diameter of checkerwork. Length of narrow wide side face of brick equals twofold sum of brick thickness and checkerwork hydraulic diameter. length of the other wide side face of brick is reduced by 0.01-0.03 of its length on the side faces of brick.
