FIELD: assembly and welding jobs at engineering plants; mechanized thermal cutting of holes in large-sized box-shaped articles. SUBSTANCE: thermal cutting unit includes uprights with mechanisms for orientation of work, beams with guides fitted in between uprights, solid master forms and carriages with cutters, as well as air and water supply system. Master forms are made as working and rectangular sections corresponding to profile of working sections. Mounted additionally on carriages and beams are sensors with orientation mechanisms. Beams are rigidly interconnected by single metalwork. Thermal cutting unit is also provided with two box-shaped air ducts connected together and located below the locating prisms of orientation mechanism and along beams with guides symmetrically relative to longitudinal axis of unit; they are provided with rectangular holes in their upper portion which are fitted with suction nozzles. Air ducts are provided with swivel gate valves at joint areas. Air and water supply system is provided with glandless valves at one-side electromagnetic control.
