FIELD: metallurgy, in particular, methods of iron smelting in blast cupolas. SUBSTANCE: taphole before accumulation of pig iron of the needed grade is preliminarily heated with liquid pig iron containing, %: carbon, 3.5-4.4; silicon, 0.9-0.22; manganese, 0.4-2 with volume equal to (0.2-0.23)$$$, where d$$$ is diameter of forehearth. Heating of taphole is carried out simultaneously with supply of oxygen to liquid pig iron effected to pretaphole space of forehearth. EFFECT: higher efficiency.
