FIELD: metallurgy; in particular, development of alloys based on iron-carbon system for casting of wear- and shock-resistant articles, for instance, grinding balls,, and methods of production of the offered alloy. SUBSTANCE: alloy contains the following ratio of components, wt.-%: carbon, 2.4-3.6; silicon, 1.15-3.0; manganese, 0.5-2.0; chromium, 0.1-7.0; vanadium, 0.01-0.15; titanium, 0.01-0.15; molybdenum, 0.05-1.0; aluminum, 0.01-0.15; magnesium, 0.01-0.07; rare-earth elements, 0.01-0.5; iron, the balance. Method for production of alloy includes smelting in smelting unit of base alloy and its ladle treatment including spheroidizing modification in ladle with magnesium-containing material and magnesium consumption of 0.007-0.2 wt. -% at temperature of 1380-1480 C and additional microalloying of melt in ladle or launder with rare-earth metals with their consumption of 0.02-0.3 wt. -%, with subsequent teeming into mold, removal of casting and its heat hardening. EFFECT: higher resistance, wear and shock resistance of alloy.
