FIELD: organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: phenol resulting from distilling off light and heavy products of combined synthesis of acetone and phenol and impurity containing mesityl oxide $$$-methylstyrene, 2-methylbenzofuran and other carbonyl compounds is continuously contacted with industrial synthetic zeolite containing alumosilicate catalyst at 120-200 C at atmospheric pressure or at pressure which corresponds to the state of liquid phenol at volumetric rates of 0.3-3.5 h $$$. The present invention affords conversion of mesityl oxide by at least 90% to attain service life of catalyst of 3 years without loss in catalyst active life. EFFECT: preparation of active and stable phenol purification catalyst.
