FIELD: metallurgy of steel, more particularly manufacture of strip billet for profiling. SUBSTANCE: claimed low-alloy iron-based strip steel comprises carbon, silicon, manganese, chromium, nickel and copper, the ratios of components being as follows (wt %): 0.05-0.09 C; 0.17-0.37 Si; 1.4-1.6 Mn; 0.05-0.30 Cr; 0.05-0.30 Ni; 0.5-0.30 Cu, and the iron balance. Alternatively, steel comprises phosphorus and aluminium and higher content of chromium, nickel and copper, the ratio of components being as follows (wt %): 0.06-0.08 C; 0.18-0.30 Si; 0.30-0.45 Mn; 0.5-0.8 Cr; 0.3-0.6 Ni; 0.3- 0.5 Cu; 0.07-0.18 P; 0.08-0.15 Al; and the iron balance. EFFECT: improved properties of steel. 3 cl
