FIELD: mechanical engineering; timing gears of internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: hydraulic tappet has body 4 in form of cup riding on control cam of camshaft. Guide bushing 6 secured in body accommodates hydraulic compensator in form of cap 9 and piston 11 limiting high pressure chamber. Shutoff member of check valve 15 is arranged in housing space. Shutoff member is installed with circular clearance relative to housing walls for self alignment. Seat 18 of check valve is made in form of ring concentric knife projections 19, and shutoff member is made in form of flat plate shutoff lapped to sealing edges of seat 18 and pressed to sealing edges by spring 17 secured on axial projection of seat. Groove 20 between knife projections is made toroidal, with radius of circle forming the torus equal to height of projection, center of torus being located in plane of sealing edges of knife projections.
