FIELD: iodine recovery from highly mineralized underground water extracted by drilling; and gas- and oil-extracting industry. SUBSTANCE: iodine-containing underground water is acidified, followed by using it for alkali production by electrochemical route in electrodialyzer containing alternating cation-exchange and bipolar membranes arranged so as to form- and alkali-intended chambers. Feed water acidified to desired pH value is directed to oxidation, followed by sorbing molecular iodine in anion exchanger which is periodically regenerated by alkali produced in the same electrodialyzer. EFFECT: reduced cost price for chemical reactants; no expenditures for transportation and storage; reduced contaminant of environment with toxic substances. 2 cl, 1 dwg , 1 tbl
