FIELD: radio engineering. SUBSTANCE: proposed radio altimeter is intended for determination of flight altitude of artificial earth satellites, parameters of gravitational field of the Earth, determination of geoid figure, relief of land surface, topography of ice fields and ocean, in particular, height of sea waves. In proposed radio altimeter there are used two types of linear frequency modulation of probing signal and two additional measurement scales which makes it possible to obtain extended zone of unambiguous measurement of flight altitude in real time onboard carrier without loss of measurement accuracy.
