FIELD: railway transport; mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method is based on application of plastic copper-containing metal to wheelset tread. To preclude hydrogen wear of tread at rotation of wheelset, tread is first wetted in liquid processing water-and-glycerin based medium with inclusion of plastic metal salts and then machining tool made of above indicated metal is brought in contact with tread at effort whose value causes appearance of whistling sound manifesting transfer of metal from tool onto machined surface. Machining done, surface is washed with 5% solution of glycerin in water. To provide long service of coating it is subjected to drying and then is coated with thin layer of lubricant consisting of 5% copper containing powder in consistent grease. Salts of copper with salts of nickel or tin, or zinc or their combination are used as salts of plastic metals. EFFECT: higher efficiency of method. 4 cl
