FIELD: inorganic chemistry, chemical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to manufacturing chlorine dioxide used, in particular, for disinfection in treatment of drinking water and sewage. Method involves preparing the parent an aqueous solution containing chlorine compound with alkaline metal, making acid medium, removing formed chlorine dioxide and gaseous chlorine from reaction space and electrolysis. As chlorine compound with alkaline metal method involves using sodium or potassium chloride or their mixture and electrolysis of the parent solution is carried out directly at voltage 10 v, not above, cathode density of current 0.05 A/cm2, not less, at temperature 50oC, not lower, and maintaining pH value of solution 5.5, not less, by addition of additional feeding hydrochloric acid. Invention provides simplifying process due to its carrying out in a single reactor without using additional equipment and using sodium chloride as the available parent raw.
