FIELD: crystal growing. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to potassium bicarbonate crystals having large size (average size at least 350 mcm) and small surface area (below 0.02 sq.m/g) which are useful as active ingredients of pharmaceutical oral dosed forms for treating bone degeneration or cardiovascular disorders, especially osteoporosis and hypertension. Potassium bicarbonate solution is introduced into suspension of potassium bicarbonate crystals in crystallizer at a specified temperature and specified concentrations of potassium bicarbonate solution and suspension. Residence time in crystallizer and agitation ratio are regulated such that crystals with desired characteristics are formed. EFFECT: facilitated procedure. 8 cl, 6 dwg
