FIELD: metallurgy, namely production of rare and rare-earth metals, and alloys of rare-earth and transition metals by metallothermic reduction process or other materials used for making high-power magnets. SUBSTANCE: apparatus includes lined metallic crucible with outlet duct and plug made of component of alloy to be produced or of initial burden; electric igniter, additional reservoir whose upper portion is joined with outlet duct and whose lower portion is joined with metal receptacle. Volume of said metal receptacle is equal to that of cast ingot. Metal receptacle is filled by metal, slag remains in said additional reservoir. Heavy metal receptacle provides rapid and oriented crystallization of metal and alloys and eliminates separation of components and phases of system. Ingot surface is free from slag inclusions, its structure is uniform that is why such alloys may be used without remelting for making magnets by powder metallurgy processes.
